Download and Install Windows 10 on a New PC with a USB Drive: A Step-by-Step Guide

How to Download Windows 10 on a New PC with USB

If you want to install Windows 10 on a new PC, you don't need a CD or DVD drive anymore. All you need is a USB flash drive and an internet connection. Installing Windows 10 from a USB drive is faster, easier, and more convenient than using a disc. Plus, you can reuse the USB drive for other purposes after the installation.

In this article, we will show you how to download Windows 10 on a new PC with USB in four simple steps. But before we start, here are some things you will need:

  • A PC with a reliable internet connection.

  • A blank USB flash drive with at least 8 GB of space.

  • A product key for Windows 10 (not required for digital licenses).

  • A tool to create a bootable USB drive from an ISO file (we will recommend some later).

Step 1: Download Windows 10 ISO File

The first step is to download the Windows 10 ISO file from Microsoft's website. This is an image file that contains all the data and files needed to install Windows 10 on your PC.

To download the Windows 10 ISO file, go to and click on "Download Tool Now". This will download a small program called Media Creation Tool that will help you create the installation media.

Run the Media Creation Tool and accept the license agreement. Then, choose "Create Installation Media (USB Flash Drive, DVD, or ISO File) for Another PC" and click "Next".

On the next screen, you can choose the language, edition, and architecture of Windows 10 that you want to download. You can also use the recommended options based on your current PC. Click "Next" when you are done.

Then, choose "ISO File" as the media type and click "Next". You will be asked to select a location to save the ISO file. Choose a folder where you have enough space and click "Save". The download will start and may take some time depending on your internet speed.

Step 2: Create a Bootable USB Drive

The next step is to create a bootable USB drive from the ISO file that you downloaded. This will allow you to boot your PC from the USB drive and install Windows 10.

To create a bootable USB drive, you will need a tool that can write the ISO file to the USB drive in a way that makes it bootable. There are many tools available for this purpose, but we will recommend two of them:

  • : A free and open-source tool that can create bootable USB drives from various image files.

  • : A free tool from Microsoft that can create bootable USB drives or DVDs from Windows ISO files.

You can use either of these tools to create your bootable USB drive. Here are the steps for each tool:

<h Rufus

Download Rufus from and run it. You don't need to install it.

Insert your USB flash drive into your PC and make sure it is detected by Rufus. If not, click on the "Device" dropdown menu and select your USB drive.

Click on the "Select" button and browse to the location where you saved the Windows 10 ISO file. Rufus will automatically detect the settings for the ISO file and fill them in the fields below.

Make sure that the "Partition Scheme" is set to "GPT" and the "Target System" is set to "UEFI (non CSM)". This will ensure that your USB drive is compatible with the modern BIOS systems.

You can also change the "Volume Label" to something more descriptive, such as "Windows 10 USB". Leave the other options as they are, unless you know what you are doing.

Click on the "Start" button and confirm the warning message. Rufus will start writing the ISO file to the USB drive and create a bootable USB drive. This may take several minutes depending on the speed of your USB drive and PC.

When Rufus is done, you will see a "Ready" message at the bottom. You can now close Rufus and safely eject your USB drive.

Windows USB/DVD Download Tool

Download Windows USB/DVD Download Tool from and install it on your PC.

Run the tool and click on "Browse" to locate the Windows 10 ISO file that you downloaded. Click on "Next" when you have selected it.

Choose "USB Device" as the media type and click on "Next". You will see a list of available USB drives connected to your PC. Select the one that you want to use and click on "Begin Copying".

The tool will format your USB drive and copy the files from the ISO file to create a bootable USB drive. This may take some time depending on the size of the ISO file and the speed of your USB drive.

When the tool is done, you will see a "Backup Completed" message. You can now close the tool and safely eject your USB drive.

Step 3: Change the Boot Order in BIOS

The third step is to change the boot order in BIOS so that your PC can boot from the USB drive instead of the hard drive or other devices.

To access the BIOS settings, you will need to restart your PC and press a specific key during the startup process. The key may vary depending on your PC manufacturer, but it is usually one of these: F2, F10, F12, Del, or Esc. You may see a message on the screen that tells you which key to press.

Once you enter the BIOS settings, look for a menu or option that says "Boot", "Boot Order", "Boot Priority", or something similar. You may need to use the arrow keys, Tab, or Enter keys to navigate through the menus.

Select your USB drive as the first boot option and move it to the top of the list. You may need to use the + or - keys, or drag and drop with your mouse, to change the order. Save your changes and exit the BIOS settings.

Step 4: Install Windows 10 from the USB Drive

The final step is to install Windows 10 from the USB drive that you created. This is similar to installing Windows 10 from a CD or DVD, but faster and easier.

To install Windows 10 from the USB drive, follow these steps:

  • Insert your USB drive into your PC and turn it on. It should boot from the USB drive automatically. If not, you may need to press a key to choose a boot device or enter the BIOS settings again and check if you changed the boot order correctly.

  • You will see a Windows logo and a loading screen. Wait for a few moments until the installation wizard appears.

  • Enter your product key for Windows 10 if you have one. If you don't have one, you can skip this step and activate Windows 10 later. Click on "Next" when you are done.

  • Choose the language, time and currency format, and keyboard or input method that you want to use. Click on "Next" when you are done.

  • Click on "Install Now" to start the installation process. You will see a license agreement that you need to accept. Read it carefully and click on "I Accept the License Terms" if you agree. Click on "Next" when you are done.

Choose the type of installation that you want. If you want to install Windows 10 on a new PC or a new hard drive, choose "Custom: Instal
